We have a special deal with A1, the biggest provider in Austria with the best network. When you buy an ESNcard in one of our office hours  you also get a free sim card by A1 bfree (special prepaid tariff). You may have a look at the official description, which is attached at the bottom of this page (pdf file).

How does the prepaid tariff work?

The biggest advantage of a prepaid tariff is that you don’t have to sign a contract with a company and it is not possible to run up debts. Normally you load up credit on your mobile phone every month (amount depends on the tariff you chose). Everything, that is not included in the tariff, will be charged extra. After using the whole money, you have to top up credit again. When you leave Austria again, you end your prepaid tariff by stopping loading credit.

How to top up credit?

You can get vouchers to reload for different amounts of money - usually 10€, 20€ and 50€. To activate it you need to enter the code on the voucher into your phone like it is described on the voucher. Those vouchers are sold at your phone company’s stores, most electronic stores, post offices, tobacconists, supermarkets and gas stations.

Do you have any questions or problems with your prepaid tariff? Please contact us first because most of the A1 Shops are not informed about the special ESN conditions.

FAQs:

What bonus do I get?

Every time you top up money on your phone you get 5€ and 1 GB of mobile data. This does not depend on amount of the money and can be used more than once per month. The 1 GB is valid for 30 days; you can’t “store” unused mobile data. Also the SIM card has 5€ credit on it when you get it.

How do I get the bonus?

Just top up your credit, the bonus is applied automatically.

Why should I use A1, I heard they are expensive when compared to other phone providers like HOT?

Answer: This might be true for regular A1 tariffs with a contract but in our case the ESN conditions are actually cheaper than the same offer form other companies. For a detailed explanation please read the calculations below.

Since there is enough money on the phone you don’t need to top up every month. The example calculation shows the month with no top up at the end of the 6 months but it can be any month except the first month. Please keep in mind that without toping up you only have 2 GB of mobile data in that month.

What is the cost of the ESN tariff?

If you use the SIM card for 6 months it will cost you a total of 50€ which is 8.34€ average per month. To get the same product (1000 min, 1000 messages, 3 GB) others suppliers will cost at least 13€ per month.

That is still quite some money, isn’t there a cheaper option?

Yes there is the cheaper option of the B.free S tariff. (See the PDF Attachment for the details)

With this tariff you only pay 30€ (average 5€ per month) for your phone. But: You only have access to the Internet (1 GB) in 3 out of the 6 months.

How much credit should I top up?

Always top up with 10€ vouchers since you get extra bonus each time you top up money.

I have an IPhone and the SIM Card does not fit into my phone!

Come to the office hours we have a SIM card cutting device. You can also go to some secondhand handy shops and cut the SIM card there. Going to the A1 shop can cause problems, depending on the shop they might refuse to cut or change it and / or want you to buy another tariff.

Now you got me interested in the A1 SIM card, but I’m a local student. Can I still get the SIM card?

If you are an active Mentor in our Buddyprogram you can get the ESNcard and with that you can also get a free SIM card. But keep in mind that it is a prepaid card so you can’t keep your current phone number.
